Reflectors & Hoods
Reflectors, or grow light hoods, are specifically engineered to use with High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) and Metal-Halide (MH) grow lights and are an important component to any grow room, effectively redirecting light toward crops. Reflectors come in two types air-cooled and non-air cooled. While air-cooled reflectors do just as their name suggests—sealed reflectors that contain heat within a chamber meant to have no direct impact on the grow room environment—making them a safe choice for tight spaces and compact grow rooms. On the other hand, non-air cooled reflectors are unsealed, producing heat directly into a room. Although the latter is a relatively inexpensive option, be sure to consider the increase in infrastructure required to remove or displace the heat. You won’t just encounter different types of grow light reflectors, but a multitude of shapes as well. Commonly used shapes are the standard square, rectangle, wing, and parabolic. While some types and shapes are ideal for condensed crops, others work well within open spaces, or in conjunction with supplemental lights.
