Traveler Jalapeño Hot Pepper Seeds – Large, Spicy, & Perfect for Salsas & Chipotles

Traveler Jalapeño is a vigorous, high-yielding jalapeño variety that produces large, 3-inch peppers with consistent medium heat. Selected over 20 years by seed grower Larry Pierce, this heirloom jalapeño thrives in various climates and delivers reliable heat and excellent flavor. Whether harvested green for a classic jalapeño kick or allowed to ripen to red for a richer, smokier taste, this variety is perfect for salsas, hot sauces, roasting, or making chipotles.

Why Grow Traveler Jalapeño Peppers?

  • Large, 3-inch fruits with a hotter-than-average jalapeño heat level.
  • Vigorous, productive 3-ft plants that yield abundantly all season long.
  • Great for multiple uses—salsas, hot sauces, roasting, stuffing, and smoking into chipotles.
  • Superior flavor when allowed to fully ripen to red, but excellent when picked green.
  • Heirloom variety selected over 20 years across multiple states for adaptability.

How to Grow Traveler Jalapeño Peppers:

  • Start Indoors: March 15 – April 1 in high-quality seed starting mix.
  • Germination Temperature: 80-90°F (use a heating mat for best results).
  • Days to Germination: 6-28 days, depending on warmth and moisture.
  • Grow Seedlings at 72°F with plenty of light (windowsills do not provide enough light).
  • Transplant Outdoors: Late May into fertile, compost-rich soil once all danger of frost has passed.
  • Spacing: 18-24 inches apart in rows or raised beds.
  • Soil Requirements: Prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0-7.0); if soil is too alkaline, add sulfur to lower pH.
  • Flowering & Growth: If plants start flowering when under 1 foot tall, remove early flowers for two weeks to encourage stronger plants.
  • Support: Stake plants if they begin to lean or fall over under heavy fruit loads.

Harvesting & Seed Saving:

  • Days to Maturity: 85 days green, 105 days red.
  • Harvest when green for a traditional jalapeño flavor or fully red for sweeter, smokier heat.
  • Seed Saving: Jalapeños self-pollinate, but cross-pollination can occur with other peppers. To keep seeds pure:
    • Cover plants with row cover fabric to prevent insect pollination.
    • Maintain an isolation distance of 300 feet from other pepper varieties.
    • Always save seeds from fully ripe, red peppers for best quality.
    • Process seeds carefully—wear rubber gloves and work outdoors when handling hot pepper seeds.

Perfect For:

  • Home gardeners wanting a reliable, flavorful jalapeño with consistent heat.
  • Market growers looking for a vigorous, high-yielding hot pepper variety.
  • Cooks and food preservers interested in making salsas, hot sauces, or chipotles.
  • Gardeners in diverse climates—this heirloom was bred for adaptability!

Grow your own flavorful, spicy jalapeños with Traveler Jalapeño Seeds—an heirloom favorite for salsas, hot sauces, and homemade chipotle peppers!
