Dealing with Rain
Jim Guttierrez |
Rain can not only ruin your day, but it can completely devastate your crop. By taking a few preventative steps you can save your day and your harvest. First; being proactive is key. Using a product like Actinovate from the beginning of veg through week two of bloom will help greatly to curb common issues such as botrytis and powdery mildew. Second; staking and trellising is crucial, saturated branches can be quite heavy and will require additional support to avoid snapping. Be sure to buy stakes that will be taller than your finished plant and secure a piece of rolled up tarp or clear plastic to two of the stakes so that when rain comes you can cover your plant for the duration of the storm. Ensure your covering doesn’t go all the way to the ground, as your plants still need to breathe. If you cannot cover them be sure to give them a good shake when the rain lets up or break out the good ol’ leaf blower and blow all that moisture away.
