Often referred to as the American alternative to Japanese Akadama, calcined clay provides similar performance at a more accessible price point.

Its porous structure absorbs and slowly releases water throughout the day, helping prevent bonsai and container plants from drying out too quickly. At the same time, calcined clay promotes airflow around roots and acts as a mild acidifier, supporting balanced soil pH and nutrient availability.
