Biological Control for Mixed Aphid Populations

Aphidius colemani/ervi combines two beneficial parasitoid wasps to help control small and large aphid species. This mix is useful when more than one aphid species is present and fits into an integrated pest management (IPM) program.

Female wasps lay eggs inside suitable aphids. The developing larvae feed within their hosts, eventually killing them and leaving behind aphid “mummies” from which new adult wasps emerge.

Target Aphids

• Aphidius colemani: Targets smaller species, including green peach aphids and melon/cotton aphids.
• Aphidius ervi: Targets larger species, including potato aphids and foxglove aphids.

Release Guidance

Introduce early, while aphid populations are low. Follow the supplied release directions for your crop, product format and infestation level.

• Bottles: Open near affected plants to allow emerged adults to fly out. Distribute the remaining material onto horizontal leaves or into release boxes placed in the crop.
• Protect the mummies: Keep release material dry and off the soil or growing substrate. Leave it undisturbed for several days.
• Blister packs: Open the release tab and hang near plants, out of direct sunlight.
• Monitor progress: Continue scouting for live aphids and parasitized aphid mummies to help guide follow-up releases.
