Aphidius ervi – Beneficial Parasitic Wasps for Aphid Control - 4 oz bottle 0.5K is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Biological Control for Potato and Foxglove Aphids
Aphidius ervi is a beneficial parasitic wasp used to manage larger aphid species in greenhouses, including potato aphids (Macrosiphum euphorbiae) and foxglove aphids (Aulacorthum solani). It targets suitable aphid hosts and can locate newly forming colonies, making it useful for early intervention in an integrated pest management (IPM) program.
Parasitized aphids develop into brown “mummies,” which can be monitored as a sign of parasitoid activity. New adult wasps emerge from these mummies to continue searching for suitable hosts.
Release and Monitoring
- Start early: Introduce Aphidius ervi when aphid colonies are just beginning to develop.
- Match the release to your crop: Follow the instructions supplied with your product for release quantities, frequency, and application method.
- Check weekly: Look for brown aphid mummies and monitor changes in the live aphid population.
- Preserve developing wasps: When pruning, check leaves for aphid mummies. Keep leaves containing mummies in the greenhouse until the adult wasps emerge.
