Powerful Biological Control for Thrips
Orius insidiosus, commonly known as the minute pirate bug, is a beneficial predatory insect widely used for biological control of thrips in greenhouses, indoor gardens, nurseries, and commercial growing environments.
Unlike beneficials that target only one developmental stage, Orius feeds on both immature and adult thrips, making it a valuable predator for reducing established thrips populations. These highly mobile predators actively search flowers and foliage for prey and can be incorporated into an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for ongoing pest management.
Application Rate Recommendations for Orius insidiosus:
- Preventative: 1-2 per square foot.
- Moderate Infestation: 2-4 per square foot.
- Heavy Infestation: 4-8 per square foot.
