Stethorus punctillum is a small predatory lady beetle used to manage spider mite infestations in greenhouses, interior plantscapes and nurseries. Often called the spider mite destroyer, it targets mite hot spots, with both larvae and adults feeding on spider mite eggs and mobile stages.

Adult beetles can fly to locate infestations, making them a useful addition to biological control programs that also use predatory mites.

Target Pests

• Two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae)
• European red mite (Panonychus ulmi)
• Spruce spider mite (Oligonychus ununguis)
• Southern red mite (Oligonychus ilicis)

Release and Monitoring

• Release as soon as possible after arrival, concentrating on areas with spider mite activity.
• Introduce beetles near infested foliage in the early morning or late afternoon, when temperatures are milder.
• Keep the container out of direct sunlight.
• Monitor spider mite populations and look for beetle larvae on the undersides of leaves.
• Follow the instructions supplied with your beetles for release quantities, repeat applications and any temporary storage.
