Two Beneficial Nematode Species for Broad-Spectrum Biological Pest Control

NEMAforce SF/SC combines two beneficial nematode species—Steinernema feltiae and Steinernema carpocapsae—to provide biological control of susceptible insect pests in soil, growing media, and other treated areas.

These naturally occurring microscopic organisms actively seek susceptible pest stages and enter their hosts, where they release symbiotic bacteria that quickly stop the pest from feeding. The nematodes reproduce within the host before emerging to search for additional prey.

Combining S. feltiae and S. carpocapsae provides complementary activity against a broader range of pests and habitats, making NEMAforce SF/SC a versatile addition to greenhouse, nursery, indoor growing, landscape, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.

Two Beneficial Species in One Application

Steinernema feltiae (SF) is particularly well suited for pests found in soil and growing media and is commonly used against:

  • Fungus gnat larvae
  • Thrips pupae and soil-dwelling stages
  • Certain fly larvae
  • Other susceptible soil-dwelling insect larvae

Steinernema carpocapsae (SC) is an active "ambush" predator that is particularly effective against susceptible insects near the soil surface and other protected areas, including various:

  • Caterpillars
  • Cutworms
  • Armyworms
  • Borers
  • Other susceptible insect larvae

Why Choose NEMAforce SF/SC?

  • Contains two species of beneficial nematodes
  • Combines Steinernema feltiae and Steinernema carpocapsae
  • Targets multiple susceptible insect pests and life stages
  • Excellent for soil and growing media applications
  • Microscopic beneficial organisms leave no pesticide residue
  • Compatible with many Integrated Pest Management programs
  • Useful in greenhouses, nurseries, gardens, and commercial growing operations
  • Can be applied through many conventional watering and spraying systems
  • Provides biological control without harming plants when used as directed

How Beneficial Nematodes Work

After application, beneficial nematodes move through moisture surrounding soil particles and growing media in search of suitable insect hosts.

Once a nematode enters a susceptible pest, it releases naturally associated symbiotic bacteria. The pest stops feeding and dies, allowing the nematodes to reproduce. A new generation can then emerge and search for additional hosts when environmental conditions are favorable.

Application Tips

For best results:

  • Apply as soon as possible after receiving.
  • Mix and apply according to the product label.
  • Apply to moist soil or growing media.
  • Avoid allowing the treated area to dry immediately after application.
  • Apply during cooler periods or avoid intense direct sunlight when possible.
  • Keep the nematode solution agitated during application to maintain even distribution.
  • Remove application filters or screens that are too fine for nematodes to pass through.
  • Use the mixed solution promptly.
  • Check pesticide compatibility when incorporating nematodes into an existing pest management program.

Maintaining Moisture Is Important

Beneficial nematodes require moisture to move through the growing media and locate pests. Pre-watering dry growing media and maintaining adequate moisture following application can significantly improve their ability to reach target insects.

Avoid waterlogged conditions—the goal is a consistently moist environment that allows nematodes to move effectively.

Important – Live Beneficial Organisms

NEMAforce SF/SC contains live beneficial nematodes. Proper storage, handling, application timing, moisture, and environmental conditions are important for successful results.

Always follow the product-specific storage and application instructions and use the nematodes within the recommended period after receiving them.
