Phytoseiulus persimilis is a specialized predatory mite used for biological control of two-spotted spider mites (Tetranychus urticae). These beneficial mites search plant foliage for their prey, feeding on spider mite eggs and other life stages in greenhouses, indoor gardens, nurseries, and outdoor growing areas.

Release persimilis when spider mites are first detected, concentrating introductions around infested plants. Their specialized diet makes them useful for addressing existing infestations as part of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program.

When to Use Persimilis

Persimilis needs spider mites as a food source. As prey becomes scarce, the predators disperse or their population declines, so they should not be relied on for lasting protection in pest-free plants. Monitor treated areas and make additional introductions as needed according to supplier guidance.

Release and Handling

• Gently rotate the bottle or vial to distribute the mites through the carrier before application.
• Sprinkle the carrier onto plant foliage, concentrating releases on or near spider mite hot spots.
• Follow supplier recommendations for release rates and repeat applications based on crop, growing conditions, and infestation level.
• Check pesticide compatibility and any required waiting period before introducing live predators.

Temperature, humidity, pesticide residues, and prey availability affect establishment and performance. Continue scouting after release to assess spider mite activity and determine whether further treatment is needed.
